Common Questions

What is the difference between medical massage and therapeutic massage?

While both therapeutic and medical massage use hands-on techniques to address muscle and soft tissue concerns, they serve different purposes and are structured differently.

Therapeutic massage focuses on general wellness, relaxation, and relief from everyday muscle tension. Sessions are customized based on client preference and comfort, making them ideal for stress reduction, maintenance care, and overall well-being.

Medical massage is a clinically focused form of massage therapy used to treat/manage specific, diagnosed conditions. Treatment is outcome-based and guided by a structured treatment plan, often coordinated with other healthcare providers.

Do you have to have a Physician Prescription/Referral to receive Medical Massage?

You do NOT need a physician’s prescription or referral to receive medical massage. Clients may self-refer and schedule an appointment directly based on their symptoms, pain, or functional concerns.

A physician referral may be required if:

  • You plan to bill massage therapy through health insurance

  • Massage is part of a coordinated care plan with a physician, chiropractor, or other healthcare provider

  • A prescription is needed to meet specific insurance or legal documentation requirement

Even without a referral, medical massage can be highly effective for both acute and chronic conditions, postural imbalances, injury recovery, and preventative care. When appropriate, we collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care and optimal outcomes—but your care can begin without delay.

Does Idaho Medical Massage Except Insurance?

Yes! My practice accepts insurance for patients. To best serve you, I can verify your insurance benefits before you arrive. Please click on the link below and complete the online form. I will contact you as soon as the benefits are established. Additional requirements may need to be met prior to your appointment.

Reviews

"Idaho Medical Massage is the best massage therapy in Pocatello for chronic pain from repetitive work related movement. Amber takes the time to understand your body, history and goals. Her combined healing techniques have been more effective than anyone else I have been to. Her prices are fair, and she is an excellent communicator and so easy to work with. A++"
